Syria air strikes: Tears shed outside Parliament as Government votes in favour of air strikes in Syria

As MPs debated extending air strikes to Isis targets in Syria, more than one thousand people demonstrated outside Parliament against military intervention.

It was the second major protest in two days organised by Stop the War campaigners.

Chants of "David Cameron, shame on you!", "Don't bomb Syria!", “Not in my name” and “We want peace” rang out across Parliament Square.

Around 200 protesters sat down in Parliament Square, forcing police to drag some onto the pavement.

MPs backed the Government’s motion by a margin of 397 to 223 - a higher-than-expected majority of 174.

RAF air strikes were launched within hours of the vote, with Tornado jets taking off from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.
