Why Syracuse Will Win
This isn’t even close to being the NC State of last year that could bomb away with just about anyone. The passing game has nothing happening down the field, it’s having a hard time simply moving the chains, and two weeks ago, it bottomed out in the loss to Florida State.
Matt McKay was the starter over the first month, and he wasn’t bad, but he was inconsistent. In steps Bailey Hockman, who threw for 208 yards against the Noles – and has had two weeks to get ready for this – but he’s in because things just weren’t going very well for this O.
Syracuse has the pass rush to bother Hockman, and it has the defense to take the ball away. NC State doesn’t generate any takeaways, but it doesn’t give them up, either. The Orange lead the ACC with 12 takeaways, but …

Why NC State Will Win
Syracuse has a wee bit of a giveaway issue. NC State has a terrific pass rush, too, and its offense doesn’t turn the ball over.
It’s not all bad for the Pack. The offense might not be fantastic, but it’s okay – it’s just coming off a rough outing against FSU. The run defense has been mauling, , and the team has a nice knack for taking advantage of just about every opportunity.
The offense isn’t consistent and it’s looking for more of an identity, but get it inside the 20, and it’ll come away with points.
Syracuse was able to get the O going against Western Michigan and Holy Cross, but it’s scrambling a bit overall to find something that consistently works. The offensive line is having a big issue, and the defense isn’t holding up its end of the bargain despite a great pass rush.

What’s Going To Happen
Last year’s 51-41 Syracuse win was one of the wildest and most fun games of the season. This won’t be that. In a division with Clemson, this is an elimination game for the loser in the ACC chase for both 0-1 conference teams.
The NC State offensive line can block the Syracuse defensive line, and the Syracuse offensive line can’t block the NC State defensive line. It won’t be pretty, but at home, NC State will happily take a win any way it can get one.
