Symantec profit jumps 72%

"Results were boosted by stronger-than-expected sales to consumers of its flagship product, Norton anti-virus software. Internet worms including Mydoom and Netsky helped create 'the most serious outbreak environment we have seen yet,' Symantec Chairman and Chief Executive John Thompson said in a conference call with analysts," according to the Mercury News.

"Symantec earned $117 million, or 33 cents a share, for its fourth fiscal quarter ended April 2, up 72 percent from $68 million, or 21 cents a share, a year earlier. The company posted quarterly sales of $556 million, up 43 percent from $390 million a year ago."

Comment: There's more detail in the Symantec press release and consolidated financial statement.
