Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he has been working on a pitch for a Rocky prequel TV series for streaming platforms.

On Monday night (29 March), the 74-year-old actor shared photos of two handwritten pages of notes to his Instagram detailing his “treatment for [a] Rocky prequel series”.

“This may be the strangest posting yet,” Stallone wrote. “I started out this morning by writing a treatment for a Rocky prequel for streaming. Ideally 10 episodes for a few seasons to really get to the heart of the Characters in there [sic] younger years.

“Here is a small portion of how my creative writing Process starts… Hope it happens.”

The pages open with the words: “Imagine a time machine that will simply transport us back to the origins of Rocky, a cinematic world brimming with characters that have been beloved by people around the world for nearly five decades!”

Writing that viewers would be transformed to the Sixties, which he described as “the most transformative generation in modern history”, Stallone listed the moon landing, the Cold War and the civil rights movement among topics the series would cover.

“Needless to say the 60s was a dynamic time,” he wrote. “Yet among all this Social Seismic Activity, we drop in on the rather plain life of 17-year-old Robert ‘Rocky’ Balboa. When we first met Rocky in 1976, he was a very lost soul… We now see this young man struggling like all young people trying to find their place.”

Stallone starred in the first Rocky film in 1976, which he also wrote along with its five sequels.

The film series also spawned spin-off Creed starring Michael B Jordan, the third film of which is due for release next year.
