Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy: Mumbai record second win

MUMBAI: Continuing their fine start in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Mumbai whipped Meghalaya by nine wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Tuesday morning to score their second win on the trot in Group A.

After the bowlers, led by seamer Tushar Deshpande (3-8 in 3 overs) and left-arm spinning all-rounder Shams Mulani (2-6 in 4 overs) restricted Meghalaya to just 65 for nine in 20 overs, young opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi (32, 31b, 3x4, 1x6) ensured a comfortable win for the team.

It was a good comeback by Deshpande, who conceded 48-0 in four overs against Haryana the previous night. Bowling a tight line just outside the off-stump, he had the Meghalaya batsmen in all sorts of trouble. Raghuvanshi, who was the triumphant India's Under-19 team's highest run-getter in the youth World Cup in the West Indies in January 2022, has made an impressive start to his Mumbai career. Going forward, though, Mumbai would want more runs from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who followed up on 14 against Haryana with 21 off 14 balls on Tuesday.

The two wins on back-to-back days also mark a good start for new Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi. With eight points in two games, the defending champions are currently topping Group A. They next play J&K on Saturday.

Brief Scores: Meghalaya 65-9 in 20 overs (Tushar Deshpande 3-8, Shams Mulani 2-6) lost to Mumbai 66-1 in 9.4 overs (Angkrish Raghuvanshi not out 32) by nine wickets
