Sydney's 'milk crate murderer' Mert Ney rushed to hospital after stabbing at Goulburn's Supermax jail

Convicted killer Mert Ney — who was jailed for 44 years for murdering Sydney woman Michaela Dunn — has allegedly been stabbed by another inmate in prison.

Police said the 24-year-old was stabbed inside the exercise yard of Goulburn's Supermax jail at about 11:15am.

ABC understands Ney was outside with a pre-approved inmate who became aggressive and attacked him with a weapon.

After officers noticed blood on Ney's face, emergency services were called to the scene by 11.30am.

He was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition after suffering multiple stab wounds.

Ney remains under police guard while an investigation surrounding the circumstances of the incident continues.

Sydney's "milk crate murderer" was sentenced last year to a non-parole period of 33 years after repeatedly stabbing his 24-year-old victim in a CBD apartment in August 2019.

He then filmed the crime scene on his phone and sent graphic videos to friends on social media before continuing his "violent, terrifying and chaotic rampage" through the city, a judge said.

Wielding a knife, he seriously injured bystander Lin Bo before bystanders pinned Ney down with a milk crate and a chair.

Ney received a 10 per cent discount for pleading guilty to the crime.

Justice Peter Johnson described it as a "violent, terrifying and chaotic rampage".

Ney proclaimed "Allahu Akbar" in both his social media videos and on the streets, but denied being motivated by religious extremism.

He said he was only pretending to be a terrorist in the hope of dying at the hands of police.

The earliest Ney could be released on parole is August 2052, when he will be 53 years old.
