In truly horrifying news, a Sydney restaurant after a woman found a whole-ass rat in her salad. Not a paw. Not a tail. A WHOLE ASS RAT IN HER SALAD!!!
Earlier this week, a woman who posts under the username D O shared a nightmare-inducing Google Review for Tatsuya West Ryde, where she claimed she “found a dead rat” in her side salad. AND YES, THERE’S A PICTURE.

“Halfway through my katsu don set, I found a dead rat in my side salad. I’d eaten half of it at this point. Just absolutely revolting and unacceptable,” D O’s review began.
“Everyone who was present at the time, stood up and left the restaurant.
“What’s even more shocking is that they continued to serve food to other customers that had just arrived and weren’t aware of what had happened, when really they should have closed immediately. One star is being generous.”

In a second scathing review, someone who claims to be the woman’s friend also slammed the restaurant and claimed that they continued to serve customers following the grim discovery.
“Don’t even think I should be giving a star considering what happened today. My pregnant friend and I were having [our] lunch set today and in her small salad was a disgusting feral dead rat that was underneath the salad,” they wrote.
“What’s worst [sic] is that they kept serving people afterwards and didn’t even close the shop.”
Following the despicable, diabolical, gut-wrenching reviews, the Japanese cuisine restaurant has since apologised for the incident and reviewed all the procedures they’ve done since the grim discovery, such as making a report to the NSW Food Authority and City of Ryde, quarantining all related ingredients, engaging in pest control, deep cleaning and more.

“Regardless of rumours or online commentary, our position remains clear: the incident happened at our restaurant, and we take full responsibility,” the restaurant said.
“We are not focused on assigning blame or debating the source. Our priority is to take strong corrective and preventative actions to ensure something like this never happens again.
“We recognise that words alone are not enough. Our responsibility now is to act decisively, improve our standards, and rebuild the trust that this community has placed in us. That is what we are committed to-openly, sincerely, and with lasting improvements.
“We offer our heartfelt apology to the customer involved and to everyone affected. At Tatsuya, we hold ourselves to high standards. When we fall short, we take it seriously, and we are committed to doing better.”
In a statement to 9News, the owner of Tatsuya West Ryde confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway.
Ryde City Council also confirmed that it has inspected the restaurant after receiving a complaint.
“The inspection uncovered several food safety issues and the Council will be taking enforcement action under the Food Act 2003 to address them,” the council told the publication.
“All food handlers at the restaurant will also be required to undertake further training in food safety matters.”
Oh me. Oh my. Look, I am truly a SUCKER for both Japanese food and cute little animals, but holy hell.
That photo will live in my mind rent-free for life.
