Sydney’s train network is still experiencing delays following Tuesday’s fallen live wire incident, with authorities urging commuters to find other modes of transport to get to work this morning.
According to Sydney Trains and NSWTrainLink, most services will be affected on Wednesday morning due to “power supply issues at Strathfield”.
“Trains will continue to operate on all lines but will not run to timetable and the frequency of service will be reduced. You may also need to change trains to continue your journey,” Transport for NSW said around 6am.
“Please delay all non-essential travel or consider using other transport where possible. If you must travel by train, please allow plenty of extra travel time, listen to announcements, and check information screens and transport apps before getting on trains.”

Although trains will continue to operate, they are not currently running to timetable and the frequency of the services has been reduced. Replacement buses have been deployed across Sydney, but according to reporters on the scene from TODAY, the lines are stretching up to 300 metres long.
The new round of delays kicked off on Tuesday evening when a live wire snapped and fell on the roof of a train in between Strathfield and Burwood stations.

The dangerous situation meant that passengers couldn’t leave the train until the situation was dealt with. It also resulted in a huge power outage, which stopped services all across the network.
On Wednesday morning, the train that had experienced the live wire was removed from the tracks. However, the T1 North Shore and Western Line, T2 Inner West and Leppington Line, T3 Liverpool and Inner West Line, T5 Cumberland Line, T8 Airport and South Line, T9 Northern Line, Central Coast and Newcastle Line, and Blue Mountains Line were still affected by delays.
If you haven’t left for work yet, maybe it’s a good day to work from home? Food for thought.
