Sydney Piper: Police find body in woodland after hunt for missing pensioner in Walthamstow

The body of a pensioner has been found in woodland a month after he was declared missing.

Sydney Piper, aged 69, was last seen entering Lloyd Park in Walthamstow, through the Forest Road entrance, about 11.50pm on Thursday February 23.

Police launched a desperate appeal for his whereabouts before finding his body just one and a half miles away in woodland close to a roundabout on the north circular.

DNA testing matched the body to the missing man.

A Met spokesman said: “On Friday, 24 March a body was found in a wooded area near The Waterworks Roundabout, The Woodford New Road, E4

(Met Police)

“A post mortem took place on Thursday, 30 March – DNA comparison has now been completed and it has been confirmed that this is Sydney Piper.

“The cause of death awaits, but it is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious at this time.

“Mr Piper’s family have been informed.”
