Sydney man arrested over gun silencer

Guns, cocaine, cash and jewellery were seized from a Sydney home and a 38-year-old man was arrested. (AAP)

A Sydney man has been charged with a bevy of firearm offences after border police allegedly caught him trying to smuggle an illegal gun silencer into the country.

Australian Border Force officers found the silencer concealed in a package imported from China earlier this month.

The package was X-rayed after an inconsistency was noticed, and then seized when officers realised what was inside.

NSW Police launched an investigation and on Friday a 38-year-old man was arrested at a house at Wattle Grove, where police seized six firearms, five gel-blaster guns, 43 rounds of ammunition, shotgun shells and other firearm parts.

Investigators also seized cocaine, $63,000 cash and approximately $150,000 worth of jewellery, including designer watches.

The man was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with 22 offences including attempting to import a prohibited weapon, possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, and supplying prohibited drugs.

He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
