Sydney disability carer faces charges over alleged 'intimate and sexually abusive' videos of children

A 20-year-old man was arrested yesterday.

A disability carer has been charged with 16 offences including producing child abuse material, after an investigation into a care home in Sydney's west.

Police allege he recorded "intimate and sexually abusive" videos of two children between the ages of four and 12, and committed multiple other offences.

It is alleged he filmed a total of five residents in his care, filming physical and verbal abuse that took place between June 2019 and April 2020.

Surry Hills Police launched Strike Force Hendra last month to investigate suspected abuse of residents at a disability care home in Mount Druitt.

A 20-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon.

His mobile phone was seized and a house in Eastern Creek was also searched.

He was charged at Parramatta Police station with 11 counts of recording intimate images without consent, producing and possessing child abuse material, intentionally sexually touching a child under 10 years and two counts of common assault.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Johnson from Surry Hills Police Area Command said electronic devices and documents seized were being looked at and there was a "good possibility" of further charges.

He said the victims were vulnerable, intellectually and physically disabled people.

"The person the allegations are made against was in an absolute position of responsibility and they have breached that trust to the worst possible scenario," he said.

"This is a significant breach of trust — very vulnerable members of the community who really rely on those people who are put in the position to care for them and it's disgusting behaviour."

The man will appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.

He has been stood down from his position at the home.

Police inquiries continue.
