Sydney couple charged after gun, ice bust

NSW police have charged three people in connection with drugs and firearms offences across Sydney. (AAP)

A married Sydney couple are among three people charged after police seized almost $2 million worth of the drug ice, and guns valued at more than $200,000.

Police will allege the trio were part of a syndicate selling illegal firearms across Sydney.

Since launching their investigation in May 2020, police have confiscated 14 handguns worth in excess of $200,000.

Detectives also say they linked the group to a clandestine methylamphetamine lab discovered in April 2020, where a stash of ice worth $1.9 million was found.

Early on Thursday morning, investigators arrested the couple at a home in Cherrybrook in the city's northwest.

A 77-year-old who police allege led the syndicate was charged with 18 firearm and drug-related offences including unlawfully selling firearms, taking part in the manufacture of a prohibited drug greater than commercial quantity, and knowingly directing a criminal group.

His 41-year-old wife was hit with 45 charges, including unlawfully selling firearms and participating in a criminal group.

Both were refused bail to appear in Hornsby Local Court on Friday.

Police also simultaneously searched a house in Guildford, arresting a 43-year-old man.

He was also charged with 45 firearm-related offences, and was refused bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court on Friday.
