Four men who climbed onto the cenotaph in Martin Place in Sydney's CBD have pleaded guilty for their offensive conduct after another was convicted of damaging the monument.
On Monday Alexander Ward, 21, was fined $1100 after vandalising the soldier's bayonet and pleading guilty to destroying or damaging property between the value of $2000 and $5000.
He was also convicted for committing an offensive act on a war memorial or interment site, while Joshua Gilbertson, 21, Tyler Noy, 19, Luke Sothern, 20, and Joel Kemp, 21, all pleaded guilty to the same charge when they faced Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday for the first time.
Kemp also pleaded guilty to behaving in an offensive manner in or near a public place or school.
The five men were arrested after CCTV footage showed them climbing on the cenotaph and sitting on the shoulders of the bronze statue of a soldier in the early hours of one Saturday in May.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian condemned the behaviour, saying it's important to understand the sacrifices made by war veterans.
The four men who remain before the court are due to be sentenced on August 10.
