The impact of travel restrictions imposed during the coronavirus pandemic has hit Australia's busiest airport hard.
Passenger movement through Sydney Airport plummeted more than 94 per cent in October from a year ago.
Just 225,000 travellers passed through its gates, and most were domestic passengers.
International passenger numbers totalled 38,000 in the month, mostly comprising Australians returning home from overseas followed by citizens of China, New Zealand, India and the US.
But the airport did notice a "modest" recovery in domestic travel to 187,000 people since September, after the lifting of travel restrictions between NSW and South Australia and NSW and the Northern Territory.
"The downturn in passenger traffic is expected to persist until further government travel restrictions are eased," the airport said in a statement on Friday.
