Sydenham Bypass road works to impact busy route over five weekends

Lane closures will come into operation from Friday 23 September on the Sydenham Bypass, as five consecutive weekends' worth of resurfacing work begins.

The Department for Infrastructure said the work is planned for the country-bound lanes, between the end of the M3 Motorway and Tillysburn junction.

It is expected to be completed by October 24, weather permitting.

The lane closures will be in operation from 11pm on Friday to 5am on Monday on each of the weekends in question.

There will also be weeknight closures from Monday to Thursday to carry out preparatory work.

Diversions will be in place with a route to be signposted via Sydenham Road, Airport Road, Airport Rd West, Holywood Exchange, Belfast Road.

"The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public," a spokesperson said.

"Those road users, particularly those travelling to George Best Belfast City Airport are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closure.

"Completion of the work is subject to favourable weather conditions, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change."
