Sydenham Bypass Belfast crash causing delays as car overturned

A car is on its roof after a crash close to Belfast City Airport.

Motorists are being warned of delays on the A2 Sydenham Bypass city-bound after a collision on Saturday morning, June 12, around 9.25am.

TrafficWatchNI cameras show tailbacks back to Tillysburn but it is understood the A2 remains open.

A passer-by said one car had overturned and another appeared to be damaged.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "Police received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision at approximately 9.25am this morning along the Sydenham By-Pass close to the George Best City Airport. There are no serious injuries reported.

"Motorists are advised that the Sydenham By-Pass, country bound, is reduced to one lane following a one vehicle road traffic collision this morning."

Just before 11am, the PSNI issued an update to say the road had fully reopened.

Meanwhile, regional Aer Lingus flights from George Best Belfast City Airport have been cancelled after Storbart Air ceased operations.

Belfast City Airport flights to and from Leeds Bradford, Edinburgh, Exeter, Manchester, East Midlands and Birmingham have been cancelled from Saturday, June 12.

The Aer Lingus Heathrow service is not affected and is still operating.

The airport released a statement on Saturday morning to apologise to passengers and said they were "working with Aer Lingus to ensure these routes are operating again as soon as possible".
