TALLAHASSEE, Fla. _ While continuing to remain coy on financial aspects of the ACC Network, league commissioner John Swofford continued to be overly optimistic about the network's prospects at the start of the league's media day Thursday.
Swofford said the league's linear network is "right on schedule" for its 2019 launch, and is slightly ahead of schedule in several phases.
ESPN's networks and the 15 ACC members are working toward a lofty goal of broadcasting nearly 1,500 events between the linear and digital network annually.
"We continue to move ahead with significant excitement and a lot of optimism," Swofford said during his press conference at The Westin Charlotte hotel.
Swofford said the network progress is "currently at a stage and timetable with ESPN where it won't be prudent to discuss the specific business aspects until the network launch."
Along with the business side of the network, Swofford also remained mum on network programming other than live sporting events.
The ACC Network reportedly secured a distribution deal, the Sports Business Journal reported last month, to help facilitate viewership.
The network is expected to provide a new revenue stream for the league and its member schools.
"I think our schools are tremendously bullish on our future as a league," Swofford said, "and that television agreement is a big part of the future of our league."
