Switzerland players sing Northern Ireland fan anthem after World Cup success

Good times never seemed so good for Switzerland's footballers after they qualified for the World Cup.

The Swiss beat Bulgaria 4-0 on Monday night to earn their place at Qatar 2022.

They were helped on their way by Northern Ireland, who held Italy at Windsor Park to deny the Azzurri an automatic place at the finals.

Switzerland and Northern Ireland don't have the most amicable of football friendships.

Controversy surrounded the Swiss team's play-off win over Northern Ireland for the 2018 World Cup.

And last month Ian Baraclough's side lost 2-0 in Geneva, with Jamal Lewis being sent off for time wasting when taking a throw-in.

But it seems those tense relations have eased a bit, well, from Switzerland's perspective.

They celebrated Monday's World Cup success with a bit of a party, and even indulged in a rendition of Sweet Caroline, the song made famous by the Green and White Army.

It was certainly a sweet night for Switzerland who can now look forward to next year's World Cup in Qatar.
