Switzerland Euro 2024 squad: Murat Yakin's full team ahead of the tournament

The Switzerland Euro 2024 squad will compete with a strong side at the tournament in Germany this summer, following a shock victory three years ago against France.

At Euro 2020, Switzerland beat France on penalties in the last 16 of the tournament to progress to the quarter-finals. While they lost to Spain, it provided their side with a greater confidence ahead of Euro 2024 this time around.

Qualifying could have been a lot easier, though, with the Swiss scraping through with four wins, five draws and one loss. Regardless, the Switzerland Euro 2024 squad contains players such as Granit Xhaka, Manuel Akanji, Fabian Schar and, of course, Xherdan Shaqiri, highlighting there's still plenty to be excited about for this side.

The Euro 2024 groups could've perhaps been a little kinder to them, however. Their opening fixtures in Group A are against Scotland, Hungary and hosts Germany, meaning they'll have to be at the top of their game in order to reach the knockouts. Having managed that on the last two occasions, it's something they're certainly capable of.

FourFourTwo will be providing up-to date information on not just Switzerland, but every other squad at Euro 2024. On top of that, there's information on how to watch every game, where the stadiums in Germany are, and who the favourites to lift the trophy are.

Switzerland Euro 2024 squad numbers

The Switzerland Euro 2024 squad numbers are yet to be confirmed.

Switzerland manager: Murat Yakin

A manager with over 15 years' worth of experience, Yakin took over Switzerland following the conclusion of Euro 2020. He has spent the majority of his career working in his native country, following on from the 49 caps he won as a player.

But while they lost 6-1 to Portugal in the last 16 of World Cup 2022, the 49-year-old managed to help Switzerland top a qualification group containing European champions Italy. At the tournament itself Switzerland came second in a group containing Brazil, Cameroon and Serbia, highlighting Yakin's ability to motivate his squad.

Xhaka excelled last season under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, so it initially seemed a strange decision that he would swap the Gunners for Bayer Leverkusen last summer. It has, however, proven to be a masterstroke, with the Switzerland captain stepping up to an even greater level under Xabi Alonso, winning the Bundesliga title and going unbeaten all season.

The 31-year-old is aided in the national team by long-time team-mate Shaqiri, though it's Manuel Akanji who holds more power these days thanks to his imperious performances in defence for Manchester City.

FAQs

How many players are Switzerland allowed to take to Euro 2024?

While UEFA initially planned a return of 23-player squads, teams fought back against that decision, causing the European governing body to backtrack. As a result, the Switzerland Euro 2024 squad will be comprised of 26 players, like recent past tournaments.
