Switzerland announce football comeback date which will interest Leeds United and Liverpool fans

Switzerland will resume football in their top-flight behind closed doors on June 8 as long as the COVID-19 outbreak does not worsen.

Football in England remains suspended until further notice, whilst there have been key developments in the Netherlands and France in the last week.

The Eredivisie ruled last week there would be no promotion or relegation for the 2019/20 season last week, whilst Ligue 1 declared the season over, although how the final table will be decided is yet to be determined.

Reports in the national media have linked the Premier League with a June restart, with discussions ongoing about 'project restart'.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that plans would be put in place for the return of the Swiss Pro League after the government relaxed their COVID-19 measures.

The Bundesliga is also targeting a restart in May without supporters, although that could be pushed back to June, alongside Switzerland.

For fans of Liverpool, Leeds United and Coventry City, who lead the top three tiers of English football, this could be seen as welcome news as they look to earn promotion and claim their league title.
