Switch Island three lane lorry crash causes huge traffic queues

Motorists were stuck in queues of traffic after a crash at Switch Island.

A photo taken at the scene and shared with the ECHO, appears to show a van positioned across three lanes of the junction.

This morning, traffic and travel monitoring website Inrix warned drivers Dunnings Bridge Road (northbound) was partially blocked as a result of the crash.

However the incident appears to have been cleared.

One eye-witness wrote on Facebook: "I've just driven past this, looked pretty shocking - hope other than shock everyone is okay.

"[The junction] is daft sometimes, how are the emergency services supposed to get there quickly and safely?"

Another said: "I hate this junction. Hope everyone is okay."

One woman told the ECHO she had been in queuing traffic for more than 45 minutes.

The busy junction is used by thousands of motorists each day.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police told the ECHO: "At around 10.30am today, we received a report that a lorry and a car were in collision on the A59 near Switch Island.

"Emergency services attended and two people received treatment for minor injuries."
