A lamp-post was knocked down sparking rush hour-traffic disruption towards Switch Island this morning.

A toppled lamp-post can be seen by the side of the road after the crash which police say involved two cars just before 6am.

As a result of the crash travel monitors INRIX said traffic was unable to turn right outside The Netherton pub and head towards Switch Island - one of Merseyside's busiest commuter routes.

Confirming the accident Merseyside Police said nobody was injured in the crash between the Renault Clio and Nissan Juke, but that the road was blocked.

Footage shows the Nissan being loaded onto a recovery vehicle and shortly after 8am traffic appeared to be coping well.

A police spokeswoman told the ECHO : "It was reported at 5:55am that two cars, a Renault Clio and Nissan Juke had been involved in a collision."

She added: "There are no reported injuries, however a lamppost has been knocked down and said to be blocking the road. Highways are aware and recovery for both vehicles has been arranged."
