Switch 2 requires internet to work, but is it really that big of a deal?

Somehow people are getting retail versions of the Nintendo Switch 2 a week ahead of launch, but upon turning on the system, they have discovered they're unable to play any games on it due to the system needing a day one patch to work, including using physical games.

This led to an uproar among fans on social media about Nintendo locking the console's basic features behind a day one update, though, equally, it means Nintendo has stopped games like Mario Kart World from leaking at all until launch by using this method.

Most of the arguments stem from the console being locked entirely until you update it, and if you don't have an internet connection, you're buying a brick at launch. Though, I feel the argument is being taken further then it should be, especially with the PS5 won't let you use the disk drive until you update it online, and the Series X having similar download gate keeping at launch.

After the initial day one update, you'll be free to use the Switch 2 as intended. It's about getting over that initial hurdle. Approximately 93 percent of the US population has internet access, and most major cities and towns have some form of public internet, even if it's slow. So surely there are a lot of options?

I'm aware that outside of the US and other countries, there are places you can buy the console reasonably, but internet speed and connection aren't as great as in other parts of the world, but I feel like there has to be some workaround, surely?

I also feel like if you can afford to buy a Nintendo Switch 2 and its games, then surely you can source some form of internet, either at an internet cafe, coffee shop, friends, family, etc. It feels baffling to me that this remains an issue. But perhaps I'm more disillusioned than I care to admit. But I made this story to try and gauge if it's just a me thing, feeling this way, or if others share the same sentiment, or can give me a different viewpoint on where this outrage is coming from.

Let me know in the comments down below.
