Crazy about cubes, Éric Caudrelier Benac says they are essentials for watchkeeping.
The 10cm³ cubes are SwissKubik watch winders that make 950 revolutions in each direction and 1,900 revolutions per day to ensure precision and prolong the life of automatic watches.
"An automatic mechanical watch is like a vintage car. If you never use it and leave it in the garage, there is a good chance that the next time you use it, it will not work or worse: break," said Benac. "Like in a car, there is oil in automatic mechanical watches that has to move regularly in order not to dry out. This is the job of our watch winders, to protect the movement, to keep your watches on time and take care of them by making them move a little each day."
SwissKubik began producing watch winders in 2007. Benac has been the managing partner for two years after his company bought the business from the collector-founder, who needed something to wind his watches when not wearing them.
"Today, if you search 'watch winder' on the internet, you come up with a long list of 20 to 25 brands, which are offering this kind of solution. So there is a demand for this watch accessory," he said. "Today SwissKubik produces personalised watch winders for more than 25 exclusive Swiss watch brands. It means that the industry has finally accepted the idea that a watch winder is a must-have."
In Thailand, the luxurious watch winders are exclusively available at the TKI flagship store in Siam Paragon.
Running on two batteries, they offer a minimum autonomy of three years. In various materials and designs, models in the Masterbox range can also be powered by the mains.
"The 100% Swiss-made watch winders are quiet and beautiful. Whether placed on a dresser or a table, they are decorative objects in their own rights," he said. "They are high precision objects that protect watches kept in a safe for a long period of time. Above all, they are reliable to take care of your watches, without polluting them with any magnetism."
After housing automatic watches, SwissKubik is working on offering winders for other types of movements to ensure non-interrupted mechanisms, precision and durability of timepieces.
