Swiss international linked with Nottingham Forest move set to be released by Saint-Etienne

January transfer deadline day was a busy one for Nottingham Forest and manager Martin O’Neill, signing three players in what proved to be his only window as boss.

He was sacked last week before being replaced by former French international Sabri Lamouchi.

One player linked with the Reds on deadline day which failed materialise was Swiss central defender Leo Lacroix, with O’Neill opting instead to sign Molla Wague from Udinese, while Middlesbrough were also said to be keen on signing the 6ft 6ins man according to German newspaper Bild.

Lacroix, reportedly a £7m target of Premier League Everton only last year, has now been made available for transfer by French outfit Saint-Etienne after spending last term on loan at German outfit Hamburg.

The 27-year-old Swiss international has one year left on his contract at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, but the Ligue 1 side will allow him to leave on a free transfer, should he find a suitable offer.

France Football report that Lacroix is currently considering offers from across Europe, and following a successful loan spell with FC Basel in Switzerland, had last summer been linked with a move to West Brom following their relegation to the Championship.
