In the Swiss town of Einsiedeln, emojis are no longer confined to screens. To mark its tenth anniversary, local dairy cooperative Milchmanufaktur has launched a new creation: Emutschli, a small mountain cheese adorned with popular emoji faces.
Produced with hay-fed milk from nearby farms, the cheese is mild and ready after four weeks of maturing.
The initiative, unveiled on World Emoji Day, merges digital culture with traditional cheesemaking.
While the smiling cheeses are grabbing attention, the cooperative faces real-world pressures like tariff threats and a strong Swiss franc.
World Emoji Day celebrates the widespread use and cultural impact of emojis in modern digital communication. The date, 17. July, was chosen because that’s the date shown on the calendar emoji on many devices, making it a playful and fitting choice to spotlight emojis.
