One of Edinburgh’s most popular seafront restaurants has closed its doors, effective immediately.
Pier Brasserie in Newhaven made the announcement by posting a notice in their window. Since launching in 2020, the business had battled through lockdowns and the ongoing cost of living crisis - until now.
In the notice, Pier Brasserie said: “We are informing you with great regret that Pier Brasserie has ceased trading.

“This hard decision, in its entirety, is a result of the continued pressures and difficulties the business has faced since, during and after the start of the Covid lockdowns. We do apologise for any inconveniences caused.”
The eatery, which was opened by a former Martin Wishart manager back in 2020, was housed in one of the city’s old fishmarket buildings.
The venue is being revamped at a cost of more than £100,000 and inspired by the Newhaven fishwives who gathered there as far back as 1896. The building was until 2018 home to Prezzo, overlooking the Newhaven Lighthouse and with views across the three Forth bridges.
The business went into some difficulties after the first lockdown, after they were told they were too young to get a grant from the government. Despite the rejection, they managed to continue and seemed to be thriving.
