CINCINNATI — After the Cubs’ 8-6 loss Sunday to the Reds, All-Star shortstop Javy Baez said he had accepted an invitation to participate in the Home Run Derby next Monday for a second consecutive year but isn’t sure he will be able to do so.
‘‘My heel has been bothering me, and I don’t want to put too much pressure on it,’’ said Baez, who didn’t start Sunday, in part because manager Joe Maddon wanted to give him a rest and in part because of the lingering effects of the bruised heel he suffered May 19.
Baez said he expects to make a final decision about the event by the end of the Cubs’ four-game series in Pittsburgh, which opens Monday.
