Swindon Town, Newport County and Blackpool interested in loan move for Bristol City winger

Swindon Town, Newport County and Blackpool are all interested in a January loan move for Bristol City winger Jonny Smith, according to reports.

Currently on loan at Oldham Athletic, Smith is yet to make a competitive appearance for City since signing from Wrexham in 2016, but has impressed at his various loan spells and is now attracting interest from the League One and Two clubs.

Smith has scored six goals and created two more in 17 appearances for Oldham this season, and his performances lead some clubs to believe that he can play at a higher level than near the bottom of League Two.

With Swindon Town and Newport County both at the top end of the table, they both believe that Smith could help with their promotion push.

And Blackpool, who currently sit in 13th and four points of a play off spot, could see Smith as a forward player who could help with their push up the table.

The winger is on a season long loan deal at Boundary Park, reports Football Insider, but City have a recall option in his contract and could send him elsewhere should they want him to move to a club in a better position than Oldham's 20th in League Two.

Football Insider says that the club are happy for him to be loaned out again to continue his development before returning in the summer where his situation will again be revaluated.

Since joining City in 2016, the winger has had loan spells at Cheltenham Town, AFC Fylde, Tranmere Rovers and now Oldham but is yet to play for City under Lee Johnson.

With the likes of Niclas Eliasson, Marley Watkins and Callum O'Dowda all ahead of Smith in the pecking order, it's likely that Smith will be keen to remain out on loan and see what he can do to impress the City staff.
