A teenager has suffered life-changing injuries after being shot.

Officers were called to the Penhill area of Swindon in Wiltshire in the early hours of this morning.

A 17-year-old boy sustained potentially life-changing injuries thought to have been caused by a firearm.

He was taken to hospital by air ambulance where he is currently being treated.

Armed police reportedly entered neighbouring gardens after being deployed to the incident in the early hours ahead of local police and ambulance crews.

Officers carried out door-to-door enquiries immediately following the shooting.

Forensic work was being carried out at the scene, with numerous evidence markers across the garden of a property at about 7am.
