Swimming pool closed for three months for repairs to re-open

A swimming pool which has been closed for three months due to safety concerns is to re-open today.

The main pool at Backwell Leisure Centre closed at the beginning of May after problems were discovered by the air handling system.

The learner pool remained opened alongside the other leisure centre facilities.

Initially it had been hoped to complete the repairs by the end of May.

But the issues took longer to resolve than first thought with pool bosses saying it wasn’t expected to re-open until mid July.

The pool is used by local schoolchildren for swimming lessons – all of which have had to make alternative arrangements.

Those with memberships for the pool, run by Parkwood Leisure, have been given access to its sister sites at Hutton Moor in Weston-super-Mare and Hengrove Park in Bristol during the closure.

A post on the pool’s Facebook page said: “We are delighted to announced that the main pool is re-opening on July 15 as normal.

“All lessons, classes will go ahead as normal.

“Thank you for your continued patience and support through this week."
