Swimming Australia names Buckley as CEO

Swimming Australia have appointed interim CEO Eugenie Buckley on a permanent basis. (AAP)

After a global search for a new chief executive, Swimming Australia (SA) has opted to appoint from within by giving caretaker Eugenie Buckley the permanent job.

Buckley has been acting chief executive of SA since Alex Baumann resigned, citing health reasons, in August after three months in the role.

Buckley is a long-time sports administrator with experience working with the rugby World Cup, the women's cricket World Cup, Football Australia, the Queensland Reds and Brisbane Roar.

"Her experience speaks for itself and we have seen that with her calm and measured approach to the challenges swimming is facing," SA president Kieren Perkins said in a statement on Wednesday.

"With our strategic plan nearing finalisation we felt Eugenie was the right person to lead us through this transformative period."

Buckley takes over amid an ongoing independent investigation into claims of abusive practices in elite swimming.

SA has formed a panel headed by prominent barrister Chris Ronalds to examine claims which surfaced during Australia's Olympic selection trials in June.

Ronalds, who helped develop Australia's Sex Discrimination Act, has yet to report her findings.
