Swimmer Takayuki Suzuki secured Japan's first gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics on Thursday, winning the men's 100-meter freestyle S4, a class for those with physical impairments.
Suzuki won the race with a time of 1 minute 21.58 seconds. Luigi Beggiato of Italy took silver and Roman Zhdanov of Russian Paralympic Committee had the bronze.
Suzuki also won bronze in the men's 50-meter breaststroke SB3 on Wednesday, clocking in at 49.32 seconds.
