Swimmer in Co Antrim airlifted to hospital

A swimmer who got into difficulty in Co Antrim has been airlifted to hospital.

The RNLI and Coastguard Rescue Teams launched this evening following a report of a missing swimmer near Larne.

The casualty was in the water in the Browns Bay area, Islandmagee.

A spokesperson for the RNLI said: "Larne RNLI was requested to launch both lifeboats, the all-weather lifeboat and the inshore lifeboat at 5.52pm following a report of a missing swimmer in Browns Bay area.

"The Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick was also tasked. The helicopter spotted a casualty in the water and alerted the all-weather lifeboat.

"The crew brought the casualty on-board the lifeboat and the casualty was subsequently airlifted to Antrim Area Hospital."
