JAKARTA -- Japanese swimmer Rikako Ikee won gold in the women's 100-meter freestyle on Monday at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, earning her second gold on the day after winning the 50-meter butterfly.
As Ikee already had a gold on Sunday in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, Monday's victories apparently brought Ikee one step forward to the Games' MVP. Before leaving for Jakarta earlier in August, Ikee said, "If possible, I want to be chosen as the Games' MVP."
Later on Monday, Kanako Watanabe won gold in the women's 200-meter breaststroke. Earlier on the day, Shogo Takeda won silver in the men's 800-meter freestyle.
