SWF chiefs 'reviewing' Motherwell Ladies venue change after Glasgow City title win

Scottish Women’s Football authorities have launched an internal review after hosted the title-decider against Glasgow City at Wishaw Sports Centre.

There has been heavy criticism of the decision on social media as City lifted their 13th consecutive league title with a 10-0 win over Well.

City player Hayley Lauder took to social media to slam the ground stating: “Just won a league title in a public park at a sports centre.

“Not how I envisaged the game in 2019. Women’s football is one the most inclusive sports and we pride ourselves on that. However, this venue was not accessible for all our fans.”

Fir Park and Ravenscraig are the two designated home grounds for ‘Well, however due to prior bookings they were unable to play the game at the venue.

It is understood that the side received special dispensation to hold the game at the Wishaw complex, as it did not meet the normal requirement of an top flight standard stadium is that it must have 200 seats to comply with the league standards.

A spokesman for the SWF stated that they will be looking at their own practices following the decision to green-light the venue. They said: “Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) are reviewing this internally with all parties and will make no further comment.”

Motherwell FC said that the club await the outcome of any review before releasing an official statement.
