Swell Sculpture Festival visitors get to feel the sand between their toes

The Swell Sculpture Festival brings art onto the sands of iconic Currumbin Beach.

More than a quarter of a million people are expected to flock to Currumbin for the annual Swell Sculpture Festival.

Surfers, sun bakers and sightseers are now sharing the sands of Currumbin Beach with sculptures of all shapes and sizes.

More than 50 artworks lining the foreshore and adorn the iconic Elephant Rock for the 15th annual festival.

Swell attracts entries from across Australia and overseas, with the winners sharing $30,000 in prize money.

Festival curator Ruth Della said the combination of the art and the iconic location brings Currumbin to the world.

"Swell is about people, art and place and the interconnection between that filters through to our community," she said.

"I think people do know that Swell is synonymous with Currumbin and Currumbin is obviously iconic for the Gold Coast too."

Swell Sculpture Festival runs until September 17.
