
Ahead of Sunday's House of Representatives election, a confectioner prepares a box of kohaku manju buns branded with the word "hissho," meaning "victory for sure," at a traditional Japanese sweets shop in Akishima, Tokyo. Kohaku buns come in pairs of pink and white, and are generally made for celebratory occasions. These buns have become popular among election candidates and officials through word of mouth, with the shop selling about 500 during the Tokyo metropolitan assembly member election in July.
