Sweet story behind this adorable photo of Kate Middleton and Prince William at garden party

Thousands of lucky people have kicked off their summer by enjoying afternoon tea with the Queen at one of her famous garden parties.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge , Prince Charles, Camilla, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice and Prince Harry have also attended some of this year's celebrations, which take place at Buckingham Palace.

As well as tucking into some delicious sandwiches and cakes, guests get to meet and sometimes have a quick chat with their favourite royals.

Lucy Stafford was one of the guests at a party last week, and she witnessed a really cute moment between Kate and William - and she even managed to get a photo.

Her snap shows a very smartly dressed William pointing and leading wife Kate, who is staring at him lovingly, by the arm.

It was taken right at the end of the party as the royals were leaving.

Lucy told Hello! : "As they were leaving the party, Kate was spending a lot of time talking to the guests and William had to hurry her along, which is the moment the photo was taken."

The Duchess has spoken in the past about how other members of the royal family always tease her for spending too long on walkabouts .

The Queen hosts four garden parties each year to celebrate and thank people who have done incredible things.

Lucy got one of the special invitations as she founded Hospital Love Bundles , a charity that sends care packages to young adults who are in and out of hospital.

She has also campaigned for improved access to medical cannabis.

She said: "It was the loveliest day and we had the most delicious afternoon tea in the gardens. The royal family circulated the party and were so incredibly kind and genuine.

"I feel so fortunate to have attended the party and will definitely never forget it."

Kate wore a pink Alexander McQueen coatdress with a pair of Princess Diana's pearl earrings.

The mum-of-three finished the look with nude suede pumps by Gianvito Rossi, a clutch by Loeffler Randall and a Juliette Botterill hat.

The Queen wore pastel blue coat by Stewart Parvin with matching hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan - and sunglasses for the May sunshine.

The Queen told one guest: "Well you do rather hope the sun shines as when you invite 8,000 people to have tea on your lawn it can be a bit of a worry."
