'Sweet, beautiful' university student Rebecca Davies killed in Abergavenny crash

The family of a 19-year-old who died following a crash have paid tribute to their "sweet, beautiful girl".

Rebecca Davies died after she was taken to hospital following the crash which happened in Abergavenny on January 2.

The student's family have paid tribute to the teenager describing her as "our shining star that will never fade".

Ms Davies, from Goytre, was studying biochemistry at Birmingham University with the hope of becoming a doctor.

The tribute continues: "Our daughter was beautiful inside and out. She was determined to help others, volunteering with St John Ambulance and St Mary's Hospice while studying for her degree in biochemistry at Birmingham University with the aim of becoming a doctor.

"She made us so very proud. Good night our sweet beautiful girl. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Three other people were seriously injured in the incident which happened at 8.05pm on Thursday, January 2, on the A4042 between Goytre and Llanellan involving a pink Peugeot and a blue Suzuki.

A 52-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, also from Goytre, sustained serious injuries and are in a serious but stable condition at Nevill Hall Hospital.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 31-year-old woman from the Cardiff area, sustained serious injuries and is in a critical condition at the same hospital.

Gwent Police asked any drivers who were in the area at the time of the crash check for any dashcam footage that may help their investigation.
