Swedish police thank Manchester United star for stopping thief

Swedish police have thanked Victor Lindelof after he helped stop a thief on Monday.

The Manchester United defender is currently on a two-week holiday ahead of the new Premier League season, and took the time to go back home to Sweden.

Lindelof might be better known for his ability to thwart attacks, but it seems like he also possesses the ability to tackle crime too.

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported the 26-year-old made a timely intervention by chasing down a man who stole an elderly woman’s handbag in his home city of Vasteras.

United later confirmed the reports that Lindelof chased and caught the man before handing him over to the authorities were true.

Although unnamed Lindelof was later thanked by Swedish police for his 'quick and sensible' intervention which stopped the thief from escaping.

“A man who was in the vicinity is said to have run after the suspected perpetrator, caught up with him and held him until the police arrived at the scene,” the police said in a statement.

“The police would like to take this opportunity to thank the witness for a quick and sensible intervention to restore the plaintiff’s property.”

Lindelof made 35 Premier League appearances for United last season as they secured a third-placed finish under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
