Swedish police issue thank you message to Victor Lindelof after chasing down thief

Swedish police have issued a message of thanks to Man Utd defender Victor Lindelof after he chased down a handbag thief in his home city.

The 26-year-old is currently on a two-week break and has returned to Sweden where he was called into action in Vasteras.

As per a report from Swedish publication Aftonbladet , a man stole an elderly lady's handbag before running off with it.

Lindelof wasted no time in racing after the offender though and thwarted the robbery with his quick intervention.

And the local police have since shown their appreciation for the United star by thanking the unnamed 'witness'.

An official police statement read: “A man who was in the vicinity is said to have run after the suspected perpetrator, caught up with him and held him until the police arrived at the scene.

“The police would like to take this opportunity to thank the witness for a quick and sensible intervention to restore the plaintiff’s property.”

Lindelof's week varied somewhat from his centre-back partner Harry Maguire who was on the wrong side of the law whilst holidaying in Greece.

The England ace was arrested in Mykonos in the early hours of Friday morning following an alleged brawl.

Maguire spent two nights behind bars as police detained the 27-year-old before taking him to court in neighbouring isle Syros.

He has since returned to the UK after being released on bail while his court case got under way on Tuesday.

Lawyer Alexandros Anagnostakis requested the case be postponed after claiming he had video evidence showing Maguire and his two fellow defendants being “mistreated” by officers.

After his request was denied, Mr Anagnostakis later claimed to the court that the brawl was started after Maguire's sister, Daisy, had been 'injected with an unknown substance' after being 'approached by two Albanian men'.

Maguire faces further charges including attempted bribery after allegedly offering money for his release.

The trial is ongoing.
