Swedish football star and ex-PSG prodigy claims January interest from Swansea City

Malmo midfielder Fouad Bachirou claims he was the subject of an approach from Swansea City during the January transfer window.

The extent of Swansea's alleged interest is unclear, although rumours linking the 28-year-old with a move to the Liberty Stadium first surfaced just before the January window.

After emerging through the ranks of French giants Paris St Germain, Bachirou enjoyed a four-year spell at Greenock Morton, before going on to work with current Swans boss Graham Potter at Swedish side Ostersunds and later joining Malmo in January 2018.

Potter's arrival at SA1 last summer saw the club linked with a number of stars from his former employers, including Ken Sema , who later went on to join Watford.

And Bachirou has now told Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt that the club showed a keen interest in securing a reunion with Potter, during what would later prove to be a desperately disappointing January window.

He said:  "I know there was interest [from Swansea], they enquired and checked how my situation was like in Malmo. But I am at Malmo and have a contract here and respect it."

Bachirou has made no secret of this admiration for the current Swans boss, or indeed number two Billly Reid, in the past, once claiming that the pair are more than capable of flourishing in the upper echelons of English football.

During his time under the duo, he told the Scottish Sun : "They are two great personalities. Billy Reid is a coach I admire. I remember him from my time with Morton, he is someone who likes to develop young players.

"Graham is tactically very aware, he is also big on psychologically — the way he works with the players and getting to know them.

"I think they will get a bigger club in the future. They were both linked with Swansea City.

"I believe Graham and Billy are good enough for the Premier League or Championship in England."
