A gunman shot dead a Swedish cameraman during a demonstration in the Somali capital yesterday and then disappeared into the crowd, an Associated Press reporter who witnessed the incident said. In Stockholm, a Swedish foreign ministry spokeswoman said the man, who was not named, was working as a cameraman for Channel 4.
The killing occurred a day after Somalia's largely powerless government and a representative of the Islamic group controlling Mogadishu signed an agreement in Sudan calling for a ceasefire and conferring militia recognition on the interim administration.
