Sweden skydiving plane crash kills all 9 people onboard

Nine people have been killed after a plane carrying skydivers crashed near Orebro, Sweden.

The small plane crashed shortly after take off near Orebro Airport, 102 miles west of Stockholm.

It caught fire on impact when the plane smashed into the ground near the runway, according to police. The pilot and eight passengers were killed.

“It’s a very severe accident,” a statement on the police website read.

The Swedish Accident Investigation Authority sent a team to the accident site.

Spokesperson Carl-Johan Linde of the Swedish Maritime Administration, which oversees air traffic, revealed the crash would have been “in connection” with the plane’s take off.

The exact cause of the accident has yet to be ascertained.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven paid tributes to the victims of the crash on Twitter.

“It is with great sadness and dismay that tonight I have read the tragic news of a plane crash in Orebro,” he wrote.

“I am thinking of the victims, their families and loved ones at this difficult time and want to express my deepest sympathy for their grief.”
