Sweat It Festival flexes on Glasgow's fitness scene as hundreds muscle in on Arches

Hundreds of fitness fans took to Argyle Street Arches to get sweaty at Scotland’s boutique health and wellbeing extravaganza, Sweat It Festival.

Donning their trainers for a fitness-filled Sunday, attendees enjoyed a day packed with more than 60 fitness sessions, talks and workshops and cooking demos.

In its second year, the event was bigger and better than ever before, welcoming the giants of Glasgow and Scotland’s health and fitness sector, including Cyclebox, 9Rounds and Activ Scotland.

Festival goers got stuck into a range of activities, from yoga dens and blast sessions to spin class, Clubbercise, hot yoga and Pilates, as well as the latest fitness and wellbeing trends like laughter yoga, Pound Rockout drumstick workouts and Parkour.

Participants put their strength and endurance to the test with a range of challenges like how many calories they could burn on an indoor skiing machine in 60 seconds, or how long they could cling on for in the Hang challenge.

All the fitness fanatics’ hard work was rewarded at the festival’s Refuel and Chatter Zone which was home to a host of mouth-watering food and drink including an Aloe Vera Shot Bar, gallus pasta and tasty juices, smoothies and shots from izenjuice.

The event also championed local businesses, with more than 30 stands selling everything from fitness equipment to workout clothing, alongside a Sweaty Betty pop-up shop, and raised more than £300 for environmental charity Trees for Life. For every ticket purchased, Sweat It has donated £1 towards planting a tree grove in the Highlands, encouraging life, nature and reducing their carbon footprint.

Emma Lynch, Sweat It Festival Director and Creator, said: “The second ever Sweat It Festival was a huge success, with even more attendees, sessions and exhibitors than last year. It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the range of classes, activities and challenges throughout the day.

“A big thank you to everyone for bringing their energy and enthusiasm and to our exhibitors for sharing their fitness expertise with everyone who came along. We look forward to welcoming you all back again next year.”

Frances Forsyth from Dumfries, who attended the event with Boogie Effect, said: “It’s such a great community vibe at Sweat It. Everyone’s really happy and open to trying new things. I went along to a Blast session and the energy was through the roof!”
