Sweary gran says she won't pay TV licence as she'll 'get free telly in jail'

A video of a foul mouthed gran outlining her opposition to licence fee changes has gone viral.

On Tuesday a large group of pensioners gathered outside BBC offices in London in protest of a decision to scrap free TV licences for the over 75s.

There in spirit if not in person was an unnamed Glasgow granny who was filmed being quizzed about the policy change by her family.

With granddaughter Siobhán behind the camera, the sharp tongued geriatric is asked whether she was planning on hitting the picket line, Glasgow Live reported.

"I'm not being funny, how many over 75s can go on a march to protest a TV licence. Some people cannae even walk," a woman off camera says.

"Well I'll make myself walk. I'll make myself walk," she replies.

"Definitely no f*****g paying that!"

When it's pointing out that she'll go to prison if she doesn't stump up, the principled pensioner retorts: "I don't care. You get free meals. You get a television in the prison.

"You get your shower and your bath and aw that you want. I'm definitely not paying it anyway."

The OAP said she was unafraid of going to prison for her cause (@04siobhan11/Twitter)

In a bid to calm the crusading OAP the woman off camera says: "You'll be in there wi all they big butch birds then, you'll be in trouble!"

The granny simply and ominously replies: "They'll be in trouble!"

Nothing, it seems, will change the elderly lady's mind.

The threat of her potential prison mates did not deter the granny (@04siobhan11/Twitter)

"I am NOT paying it. I'm definitely not paying it," she says.

"There's a lot of people like me who will not pay it.

"That's my final word on it.

"I'm going to the prison. You can come and see me in the prison."

The woman's defiant take has been viewed more than 50,000 times (@04siobhan11/Twitter)

Since it was posted yesterday the video has been viewed 50,000 times and received 2,500 likes.

On June 10 the BBC confirmed plans to scrap free TV licences for millions of people aged over 75.

The benefit will only be available to those on Pension Credit from June 2020 under a brutal cut announced by the Corporation.
