Sweary end-of-year cards sent by parents leave teachers fuming

Exams are done, classes are over, and school is out for the summer.

It's a time of year when the flowers, chocolates and warming cards flood in from parents and pupils - well, usually anyway.

But it is 2019 after all, so kindness is hard to come by. At one school unhappy parents have taken their pent up frustration to the next level.

They've used the tradition of sending end-of-year cards to blast teachers they dislike, and it's left staff at the school furious.

Card greetings arriving on their desks this year feature angry and sarcastic messages, including, "Thank f*** my kid doesn't have you next year" and "As my child's teacher, I completely understand why you need so many 'holidays'."

Teachers' backlash

Now the Yorkshire-based card company behind them has come under fire from teachers on social media who were taken aback upon receiving them.

"We've had lots of messages from teachers on social media who think that our products are insulting and rude towards them," Love Layla manager Stacey Dennis told The Mirror.

"We believe they are great fun - as do the parents who have nearly cleaned us out of our stock."

Other cards say things like "Nursery teacher: The only job where you find yourself saying don't lick that" and "Thanks for putting up with bratty, ungrateful children like my classmates!"

Love Layla has also been selling bottle labels, which can be jokingly placed on a teacher's favourite tipple, reading: "Sorry my child is the reason you drink... so have this on me".

'Good-natured'

The social media backlash doesn't mean much for Stacey, who thinks everyone needs to just lighten up a bit.

"We're used to upsetting some people with some of our range which despite sometimes being risque is designed to be a laugh and thoroughly good-natured," she said.

"I would say that all those outstanding, enthusiastic teachers out there have nothing to worry about but those who may be less than top of the class should prepare themselves!

"As our thanks teacher range has proved so popular, we're frantically printing as much as we can before schools out.

"Whatever teachers receive as terms draws to a close, I'm sure six weeks holidays will help them get over it if they've been offended in any way."

Brilliantly, she added: "And if they are offended, there's always an option to give as good as they get with a "thank f*** I don't have to teach your child next year" card.
