SWAT team shoots, kills man holding hostages in Florida home

ORLANDO, Fla. _ Lake County deputy sheriffs on Thursday morning shot to death an armed man who was holding two people hostage in a Eustis home, authorities said.

Nobody else was hurt in the incident, which unfolded at 406 N. Center St., behind the Grove Square plaza on State Road 19, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, which assisted the Eustis Police Department.

The man who was shot and killed was identified as Tracy Alan Richards, 55, sheriff's Lt. John Herrell said. He had been holding his wife, Wendy Lee Richards, 51, and Richards' brother Gary Lee Babb, 47, hostage.

Deputies tried to get Richards to surrender peacefully, but he charged deputies outside the home, Herrell said. SWAT team members then shot him, he said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is on the scene investigating the shooting.
