SWAT standoff in Jefferson Park ends after nearly 4 hours: police

The man was taken into custody about 2:15 a.m. Thursday.

The SWAT team was called to an apartment in the 6100 block of West Higgins Avenue after a man barricaded himself inside with a gun.

Two people have been taken into custody after a nearly four-hour standoff with police in Jefferson Park on the Northwest Side.

About 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a call of a man waving a gun around in the 6100 block of West Higgins Avenue, Chicago police said. The call turned into a shots-fired call when a neighbor who had been arguing with a man and woman told police someone shot through the neighbor’s door.

When they arrived, officers learned that the man and woman were inside an apartment with a weapon and refusing to come out, police said. The SWAT team was then called, and almost four hours later, at 2:15 a.m. Thursday, both people were taken into custody.

Charges are pending against both offenders.
